The Grand Egyptian Museum hosted the official press conference for Glory in Giza, one of the most anticipated boxing events of the year. The event brought together leading names from boxing and combat sports ahead of a major fight night scheduled near the Pyramids of Giza.
Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and President of the Saudi Boxing Federation, said the event reflects a new stage in global boxing. He thanked the Egyptian authorities and organizers for helping bring such a large sporting occasion to one of the world’s most iconic historical locations.
The main event features Ukrainian heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk against Dutch kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven. Both fighters spoke about the special meaning of competing in Egypt and showed respect for each other before the bout.
Usyk said he was happy to take part in an event with such historical significance, while Verhoeven described the fight as one of the biggest challenges of his career. He noted that moving from kickboxing into a high-level boxing match required serious preparation and a different mindset.
Organizers described Glory in Giza as more than a sporting event. With the Pyramids as its backdrop, the fight night is expected to combine world-class boxing with the symbolism of ancient Egyptian history, attracting international attention from fans and media.
